Concert Choir

​

This advanced choral ensemble of mixed voices is made up of singers in grades 9-12, and meets during period 6 everyday throughout the entire school year. Students enrolled in this course will develop the ability to sing quality repertoire from the Renaissance to Modern periods of music. Through a logical instructional sequence that includes proper breathing, healthy tone production, accurate pitch, diction, expression and sight-reading ability, students will learn the fundamentals of singing.

Concert Choir performs in three major concerts throughout the school year: the Holiday Concert in December; the Choral Concert in March; and the Pops Concert in May. For over 20 years, the BHS Concert Choir has partnered with the Handel and Haydn Society of Boston in the Collaborative Youth Concerts. Select students have represented Concert Choir by singing in the CYC concerts at both Symphony Hall and Jordan Hall in Boston. 

The choir has consistently received superior ratings at state and national festivals.  Concert Choir annually performs in the MICCA Choral Festival, where they received a Gold medal in 2014, 2016, 2017, and 2018 leading them to perform at Symphony Hall in the MICCA Gold Medal Showcase. In April 2015, Concert Choir performed at the National Association for Music Education (NAFME) Eastern Division Conference in Providence, RI. In February 2016, the choir was chosen to perform in a "Together We Sing" session at the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Eastern Division Conference in Boston, MA.

A select ensemble from Concert Choir had the privilege of singing for the Prime Minister of Cape Verde, Jose Maria Neves, in his September 2015 visit to Brockton. In June 2014, the BHS Concert Choir won a radio contest hosted by 105.7 WROR, allowing them the opportunity to sing in concert with the classic rock band, Foreigner, at the Blue Hills Bank Pavilion in Boston. Over the past years, Concert Choir has toured to Washington D.C., Myrtle Beach, Arlington VA, New York City, and Walt Disney World.
